1. UP COUNTRY CYCLE ADVENTURES (Dec-Mar Dry season for West banks of Central mountains  )

Recommended Dec-Mar (Cool 15-25°C, misty mornings) | Elevation Gain: 800-2,200m total

1.1 Hatton – Adam’s Peak Mountain  (Moderate – 2 Days light track)

Route: Hatton (1,275m) → Maskeliya  (1300 m) → Adams peak (2243m by walk) → Highlight: Sacred mountain sunrise procession, tea valley-to-elephant plain descent, 

2 Hatton – Sinharaja – Tea mountain to rainforest -(5 days Hard track 

Highlight: fog-shrouded estates, Rawana Falls rainbow swim, Sinharaja rainforest bird symphony, wildlife corridor crossings
Scenery: rivers, double tea carpet valleys, UNESCO jungle edge
Route: Hatton (1,200m) →  Bagawanthalawa 1300m → Balangoda (600m) → Udawalawe (200m) → Sinharaja (400m) (140km / +1,800m)

3 Hatton – Kitulgala   Waterfall Symphony – Seven cascading plunges with jungle soundtrack  (3 days Light track, decent 

Highlight: Laxapana double falls thundering duet, Maskeliya reservoir mirror reflections, Kitulgala white-water rafting viewpoints, hidden emerald swimming holes
Scenery: Mist rainbows, fern-choked gorges, tea-rice boundary lines

4 Nuwaraeliya – Kitulgala World’s End Traverse – 880m cliff vertigo + Horton Plains moonscape  (5 days , decent 

Highlight: Wild pony herds grazing English moors, Diagama cloud inversions, Ambewela Little England farms, Kitulgala river rapids roar

6 Nuwaraeliya – Hatton Highland Short Circuit – Rapid 1,000m plateau-to-valley descent 4 days 

Highlight: Horton Plains prehistoric grasslands, World’s End alternate mist trail, Diagama wild beehives, Hatton tea train crossing
Scenery: Alien moorlands, buffalo stampedes, sudden valley plunges

7 Nuwaraeliya – Ella  , Ella Skyline Loop – Train-vs-bike Nine Arch Bridge duel   3 days 

Highlight: Haputale Adisham monastery stained glass, Ohiya singletrack drops, Ella rock climbing views, World’s End cloud surfing
Scenery: Cloud trains piercing viaducts, synchronized tea picker waves

2.0 Apr-Sep (Dry 18-28°C, Dry season  for East bank of central mountains ) | Elevation Gain: 600-1,500m total

8 Ella- worlds end -Ella      Cloud Circuit – Post-monsoon waterfall explosion loop  3 days hard track

Highlight: Welimada flower carpet valleys, Ohiya raw rainbow streams, World’s End dry season clarity, Ella Gap infinity point
Scenery: Fresh green explosion, crystal waterfalls
Route: Ella (1,000m) → Ohiya (1,800m) → World’s End (2,200m) → Welimada (1,200m) → Ella (1,000m) (85km / +900m)

9 Ella – Kandy Ragala Ridge Run – Bamboo forest to temple lake descent 4 days 

Highlight: Rikillagaskada fern tunnels, Ragala hidden lakes, Kandy lake temple circuit, spice garden aroma assault
Scenery: Post-rain emerald, lotus flower carpets

Important Cycling Notes:
  • Sri Lanka drives on the LEFT side of road – opposite to many Western countries
  • Road quality varies: main roads generally good, some rural sections have potholes
  • Traffic in cities (Colombo, Kandy) can be dense – guide leads through safely
  • Hill country climbs are challenging but rewarding – elevations reach 2,000m+​
  • Stay hydrated – tropical heat requires frequent water intake
  • Monsoon rains possible depending on season/coast – quality rain gear essential
