Program Overview

Duration: 2, 4, or 6 weeks (Monday starts, year-round)
Locations: Toddy Land’s 7 Japanese Language Centers (Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Gampaha, Polonnaruwa,Matele)
Unique Point: Sri Lanka has 15,000+ Japanese language students – the largest concentration outside Japan in South Asia. Train with real students in an environment that feels like a Japanese university campus abroad. As of 2026, 74,000 Sri Lankans in Japan 

Target: Native Japanese university students from Japanese universities preparing to teach Japanese overseas (JET Program, language schools, online platforms), as practical part of their home country curriculum

Week-by-Week Program Structure
Week 1: JFL Methodology + Sri Lankan Classroom Immersion
  • Day 1–2: Japanese Language Pedagogy (JF Standard, Marugoto, Genki)
  • Day 3–4: Observe 6 master classes at Toddy Land centers (N5–N3 levels)
  • Day 5: Teach your first 30-min lesson to real Sri Lankan students
  • Homework: Analyze 3 student mistakes + create next lesson
    Deliverable: Self-introduction lesson plan + teaching reflection
Week 2: Core Grammar & Communication Skills
  • Teach particles (wa/ga/o/ni/de) using Sri Lankan student data
  • Practice verb conjugation drills with actual student worksheets
  • Live Practice: 3x 45-min lessons at different centers (beginner/intermediate)
  • Technology: Anki, Quizlet, Google Classroom setup for JFL
    Deliverable: Grammar workshop materials + 2 recorded lessons
Week 3: Listening, Speaking & Classroom Management
  • Listening: Design dialogues using Sri Lankan daily life scenarios
  • Speaking: Information gap activities, role-plays, pair work
  • Classroom Management: Handle mixed-ability classes (N5–N2 together)
  • Live Practice: Full 60-min conversation class + parent feedback session
    Deliverable: Speaking assessment rubric + student progress report
Week 4: Reading, Writing & Full Lesson Planning
  • Kanji teaching: 80 basic kanji using Sri Lankan mnemonics
  • Lesson Planning: 90-min complete lessons (warm-up → production)
  • Assessment: Quizzes, oral tests, writing portfolios
  • Live Practice: Teach complete lesson cycle at main Colombo center
    Deliverable: Full lesson package (plan + materials + homework + test)
Week 5–6: Advanced Practice + Multicultural Teaching (Optional)
  • JLPT Prep: N5–N3 teaching methodology
  • Multicultural: Teach Japanese tourists + Sri Lankan professionals
  • Online Teaching: Zoom lessons for Japanese learners worldwide
  • Career Prep: JET Programme mock interviews + CV building
    Final Deliverable: 2-hour teaching demonstration + certification portfolio
Accommodation Options by Location
Kandy – Cultural Capital Stay
  • Homestays : Live with local families in leafy neighborhoods, join temple visits, cooking, and evening tea 
  • Japanese-speaking friends’ homestays: Matching with English/Japanese-speaking hosts near language institutes; ideal for practice, cultural exchange, and quiet study time. 
  • Dormitory / Guesthouses: Student-style hostels and guesthouses with Wi‑Fi and study areas; free time for Kandy Lake walks, cultural dance shows, and city viewpoints.
Colombo/Gampaha – Urban Teaching Hub
  • Homestays: Stay with working Sri Lankan families in residential areas, experience real city life, markets, and commuting. 
  • Japanese-speaking friends’ homestays: Selected hosts with Japan links (ex‑JET, returnees) for lesson practice, teaching mentoring, and local guidance. 
  • Dormitory / Guesthouses: Budget hostels and guesthouses near universities and train lines; free time for cafés, Galle Face Green, temples, and city walks
Polonnaruwa – Heritage & Village Life
  • Homestays: Village-style homes near rice fields and ruins; join local cooking, cycling, and ancient city visits after class.socialbnb+1 
  • Japanese-speaking friends’ homestays: Limited, but possible with partner teachers in heritage areas for deep cultural and language exchange. 
  • Dormitory / Guesthouses: Simple guesthouses close to archaeological sites; free time for biking the ruins, lake walks, and wildlife spotting. 
Galle – Coastal & Historic Atmosphere
  • Homestays: Character homes inside or near Galle Fort, combining colonial streets, cafés, and ocean views. 
  • Japanese-speaking friends’ homestays: Hosts connected to tourism/education, allowing Japanese conversation and cross-cultural projects. 
  • Dormitory / Guesthouses: Fort-area hostels and budget stays with shared kitchens; free time for fort sunsets, beach trips, and weekend surfing nearby
